The story
Nikki and Jason are a loving, slightly chaotic couple who badly want to become parents. When having a baby the usual way proves impossible, they turn to adoption, and find themselves navigating assessments, panels, a formidable adoption officer and the unsolicited advice of friends and family. Later series jump six years ahead to find them raising two children, Princess and Tyler.
Why it matters
Trying is a British sitcom, co-produced by Apple and the BBC, that debuted on Apple TV (then Apple TV+) in May 2020 and only reached BBC iPlayer and a BBC One broadcast in 2025. It is a clear example of a homegrown UK comedy finding its first audience on an American streamer, years before British viewers could watch it on the BBC.
