The story
After a chlamydia diagnosis, Glasgow garden designer Dylan has to do the responsible thing and get in touch with every woman he has slept with. Each awkward call sends the story spinning back to an old fling, gradually piecing together how Dylan and his closest friends, wry Evie and reckless Luke, have shaped one another's love lives, and why one unspoken attraction refuses to stay buried.
Why it matters
Lovesick shows how a streamer could give a small British sitcom a second life. After a single Channel 4 series under an off-putting title, it found an audience on Netflix, which commissioned new episodes on its own, renamed it and turned it into a global original for two more series. Star Antonia Thomas said the old name had mis-sold the show's tone.
How it was rescued
The first series aired on Channel 4 in October 2014 under the title Scrotal Recall. Netflix streamed it in the US from April 2015 and, after it found success there, commissioned a second series itself, without Channel 4's involvement; renamed Lovesick, it premiered globally as a Netflix original on 17 November 2016.
