The story
An artificial intelligence has woven itself into almost everyone's life, but Sister Simone, a nun, regards the all-powerful algorithm as an enemy to be destroyed. Teaming up with her ex-boyfriend Preston, who also opposes it, she sets off on a far-flung mission that pits faith against technology in an adventure that grows more gloriously absurd with every turn.
Why it matters
A one-season swing pitting a nun against an AI, Mrs. Davis showed Peacock backing an audacious, creator-led limited series; NBCUniversal Television and Streaming chair Susan Rovner outbid other broadcasters and streamers to land it. It appeared on several mid-year lists of 2023's best TV, admired as an offbeat collision of faith and technology.
