The story
Twenty years after his last mission, Jean-Luc Picard has retired from Starfleet to his family's vineyard, still troubled by the loss of his friend Data. His quiet life is upended when a young woman with a mysterious link to Data comes looking for help, pulling the ageing admiral back into space with a mismatched new crew on adventures that test how much he still has to give.
Why it matters
Picard brought Patrick Stewart back to his signature role nearly two decades after Nemesis and showed streamers the pull of legacy characters. Designed as a slower, character-driven study of an ageing hero, it built to a final season reuniting The Next Generation's main cast.
