The story
Ten thousand people live in a colossal underground silo 144 levels deep, bound by strict rules they are told keep them alive in a ruined world. When unexplained deaths start to pile up, Juliette Nichols, an engineer who keeps the generators running in the lowest levels, begins asking dangerous questions about who built the silo, and what its rulers are hiding.
Why it matters
Hugh Howey's Wool had stalled as a film project before Apple TV (then Apple TV+) picked it up as a series in 2021. Streaming gave the story room to cover the whole trilogy: with Rebecca Ferguson leading, the planned four-season run maps the three novels across its seasons, ending with Dust in 2027.
