The story
Ivy Moxam was 13 when she was taken. Thirteen years later, at 26, she escapes from the cellar where she was held and walks back into a family, and a world, that carried on without her. As detectives press her for details that could catch her captor, her parents and sister struggle to reconnect with a daughter frozen at the moment she vanished.
Why it matters
Thirteen was among the first original dramas BBC Three launched after going online-only in February 2016, with each episode released online a week before it reached BBC Two. It gave Jodie Comer an early leading role, and reviewers singled out her performance, making it an early marker of what the digital channel could do with drama.
Born online
Thirteen was part of the first slate of new programmes launched by BBC Three after it became an online-only service in February 2016. Its first episode was released on BBC Three on 28 February 2016, and each episode reached BBC Two a week after its online release.
