The story
Cassian Andor is a thief and scavenger living by his wits on the fringes of a galaxy under the Empire's heel. When his past catches up with him, he is drawn towards a fledgling resistance that needs people with nothing left to lose. Over five years leading up to Rogue One, the story widens to show spies, politicians, bureaucrats and ordinary citizens as rebellion slowly takes shape.
Why it matters
Andor proved that a franchise spin-off made for streaming could be treated as serious political drama. Grounded and adult in tone, it won a Primetime Emmy for drama writing and two Peabody Awards, and many publications rank it among the best Star Wars productions ever made.
